3 Reasons You Might Not Be Getting Stronger

At Kee2Fitness, we’re dedicated to helping you achieve your fitness goals.

If you’ve been working hard but aren’t seeing the strength gains you expect, don’t get discouraged.

Let’s delve into three common reasons you might not be getting stronger and how you can overcome them.

Your strength training is more like cardio

Sometimes, we can fall into the trap of performing strength training like a cardio session, moving quickly from one exercise to the next with minimal rest. While this can boost your heart rate and burn calories, it may not be the most effective approach for building strength.

To maximise your strength gains, it’s crucial to reach high intensities through load, not just speed.

This means lifting heavier weights and allowing yourself adequate rest between sets. By taking your time and focusing on heavier lifts, you give your muscles the stimulus they need to grow stronger.

So, next time you’re at Kee2Fitness, remember to slow down, lift heavy, and rest up!

Your movement is holding you back

It’s not just about what you lift; it’s about how you lift it. At Kee2Fitness, we emphasise the importance of proper technique and movement quality. Poor form can not only hinder your progress but also increase your risk of injury.

Focus on executing each movement with precision. Quality sets performed with the correct technique allow you to lift more weight over time, leading to better strength gains. If you’re unsure about your form, don’t hesitate to ask one of our coaches for guidance. We’re here to help you move better and lift stronger.

You could eat a bit more

Nutrition plays a crucial role in your strength-building journey. While calorie deficits and low-carb diets have their place, they might not be ideal if your primary goal is to build strength. Your body needs adequate fuel to perform well during workouts and recover afterwards.

Ensure you’re consuming enough calories, particularly from protein and carbohydrates, to support muscle growth and repair. It might be helpful to track your intake and make adjustments based on your performance and recovery.

If you’re feeling unsure about your nutrition plan, our team at Kee2Fitness can offer personalised advice to help you optimise your diet for strength gains.

Top Tips for Before a Workout from a Personal Trainer

Whether you’re a novice or a professional, there are some things that everyone can use when it comes to training. In this blog, we’ll cover some tips and tricks that will help your next workout be the best one yet!

Before Your workout, get that body moving

Before you start your workout, you need to get the blood flowing.

Take at least 5-10 minutes pre-workout to make sure you’re ready and pumped for your session.

Cue the music and get in the zone

You’ve got your playlist ready and your gym bag packed. It’s time to start moving toward your fitness goals! Before you do that, though, there are a few tips for getting in the zone before a workout:

  • Listen to music that gets you in the zone. If you’re going for a run or doing cardio on the elliptical machine, listen to something upbeat but not distracting.
  • Don’t listen to music that will get you off track. This is especially important when working out at home; if someone else is around, make sure they know not to disturb you while you’re focused on their own workout routine.
  • Put your playlist on and leave your phone by one side until after the workout.

Plan your session beforehand

Planning your sessions beforehand is one of the most important things you can do before a workout. It’s all too easy to lose motivation at the gym, especially if you’re not sure what to do next.

Hydrate and caffeinate

Before your workout, drink a glass of water or other hydrating drink. During your workout, sip water at regular intervals to avoid dehydration—and if necessary, take a break from the activity to rehydrate.

Caffeine is also another way to increase performance during exercise sessions. Research shows that ingesting caffeine pre-workout has been shown to increase exercise performance in both aerobic and anaerobic bouts of work.

One study showed that those who consumed caffeine before going for a run significantly improved their time compared with those who didn’t receive the boost from coffee prior to beginning their run.

Remember, if you’re not feeling your best before a workout, it can affect the quality of your workout and even hurt you in the long term. So take some time to stretch out and warm up before you hit the gym or get on that treadmill – you’ll be glad you did!

Personal Traits Developed Through Training

As a Personal Trainer of small group training sessions in Wolverhampton, I’ve seen the incredible impact that training can have on our members’ lives.

Not only does it improve their physical health and fitness levels, but it also helps to develop a range of personal traits that can benefit them in all areas of their lives.

Happiness: The Power of Endorphins

Happiness is one of the most significant benefits of regular training.

The endorphins released during exercise have a positive effect on mood and can even help to alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety.

No matter how tough your day may be, a workout can help to lift your spirits and leave you feeling happier and more energised.

Grit: Mental Toughness and Resilience

Grit is another essential trait that is developed through training.

When we push ourselves to our limits and overcome challenges during workouts, we develop the mental toughness and resilience needed to persevere in other areas of our lives.

Whether it’s tackling a difficult work project or dealing with a personal issue, the grit developed through training can help us to keep pushing through even when things get tough.

Personal Accountability: Making and Keeping Promises

Personal accountability is another key trait that is developed through training.

When we commit to a regular workout routine, we’re making a promise to ourselves to follow through on our goals.

The feeling of empowerment that comes with keeping that promise and achieving our fitness goals can spill over into other areas of our lives, helping us to feel more confident and in control.

Confidence: The Benefits of Physical Strength

Confidence is another significant benefit of regular training.

As we become fitter and stronger, we develop a sense of confidence in our physical abilities that can translate into greater self-confidence in other areas of our lives.

Feeling better about our appearance, mental clarity, and physical strength can help to boost our overall self-esteem and sense of well-being.

Solution-Focused Mindset: Overcoming Challenges

Finally, training helps to develop a solution-focused mindset.

When we face challenges during workouts, we learn to approach them with a problem-solving mentality, focusing on finding ways to work around or through the obstacle rather than giving up.

This mindset can be applied to all areas of our lives, helping us to approach challenges with a positive and proactive attitude.

Kee2Fitness: Helping You Thrive

At Kee2Fitness, we’re passionate about helping our members to develop not only their physical fitness but also a range of personal traits that can help them to thrive in all areas of their lives.
